Think Out Of The Box And Change Yourself Now

Not so long ago I received a mail from a friend on thinking out of the box. Just, what is thinking out of the box and how it can help you in changing your life? If you don’t know what is thinking out of the box, in simple term, it means thinking differently.

The following moral and ethical dilemma type of question ( the mail I received ) that was once actually used as part of a job application process illustrates the point clearly.

You are driving along in your car on a wild, stormy night, it’s raining heavily, when suddenly you pass by a bus stop, and you see three people waiting for a bus:

1. An old lady who looks as if she is about to die
2. An old friend who once saved your life
3. The perfect partner you have been dreaming about.

Which one would you choose to offer a ride, knowing very well that there could only be one passenger in your car? You could pick up the old lady, because she is going to die, and thus you should save her first or you could take the old friend because he once saved your life, and this would be the perfect chance to pay him back. However, you may never be able to find your perfect mate again.

Think before you continue reading. What would you do? Who will you choose? How will you solve this problem?

The candidate who was hired (out of 200 applicants) had no trouble coming up with his answer. Guess what was his answer? He simply answered: ‘I would give the car keys to my old friend and let him take the lady to the hospital. I would stay behind and wait for the bus with the partner of my dreams.’

Can you see what thinking out of the box means? It means new way of thinking instead of hanging on to old habitual concepts. If you look closely and check your own behavior, its often based on your attitude of holding on to old pattern of habits. These habits are picked up through the kind of people we associate with and the kind of life experiences we go through.

If you are thinking of changing your life or lifestyle, let go of your old habits and start think out of the box. It includes taking new perspective on how you are going to handle your life from now onward, an openness to new and innovative ideas, willingness to take risk and embrace it as part of life challenges and not as a burden.

Here is a hint; If you know the way you are doing things is only making your life a failure, why would you want to still use the same way? Look at your thinking process, the way you think, and change it. You can change your life for better. Too Risky? Nothing has been achieved in this world without risking. So risking is part of improvement. Take it and see where it leads you. You wont loose anything, you will only learn something new. Like it or not, that’s how we grow.
