Every now and then I come across people who complain that they are unable to achieve their goals. I will just tell them to use the KISS formula. Have you heard about the KISS formula? It is the acronym for Keep It Simple and Sweet.
It’s really that simple. We don’t really have to crack ourself to think how we are going to achieve our goals. The problem with people is they have too many goals to achieve within a given time frame and to add to it, those goals are not what they really want to achieve anyway.
Think of one main or major goal that your really want to achieve and give yourself a time frame to achieve it. Create an action plan with daily activities which will help you succeed achieving this goal well on time. These daily activities should be your minor goals.
Whatever your minor goals are, they should lead you to achieving your major goals. So don’t just add in unnecessary activities within the action plan. If you don’t plan your daily goals to lead you to your main goals properly, I guarantee you will not achieve your major goals.
Let me give you an example. Let’s say you have a goal of writing one thousand article for your blog within three months time. You think for awhile and you figure out that you need to write at least ten article per day to achieve that goal within the given time frame. Now that should be your daily activities: to write ten articles per day.
Your daily writing of ten articles is your minor goal which will lead you to achieve your major goal within the time frame you set. No matter what happens if you persist and stick to your daily goal, you are bound to achieve the major goal – that is writing one thousand article within three months. Can you see the point of having minor related daily goals? That is why planning your daily goals properly is very important.
Another factor is managing your time properly. You must make sure you value your time as important as your major goal itself. If your goal is really very important, every moment you have in life will be treated important because it presents you with opportunity to achieve your major goals. Seize the moment with your planned daily activities. If you do this, you are guaranteed to achieve your major goal.
Of course, life is unpredictable. We face a lot of challenges along the way. I deal with them by just accepting them as they come. Often I ask myself, “what can I learn from this challenging situation?” or “what are they trying to teach me?”. This sometimes gives me the inspiration to do what I like to do most – writing. You too can use your challenges as a tool to achieve your own goals. The real challenge is in our creativity to convert our problems into opportunities that can help us achieve our major goals.
Be optimistic and think positive. There is no problem that cannot be solved. In fact, they come to teach you and lead you faster towards your goals. That is true if you can see why they even exist. Problems are really teachers. So don’t worry if you are facing problems while trying to achieve your goals. Just think of a way to learn from it and solve it and move on with your focus on achieving your goals. The point is, don’t give up on your goals.
In a nutshell: Keep your goals sweet and simple. Have a goal that you will love to achieve rather than forced to achieve. You are more likely succeed achieving what you love than what you don’t love because you will be resisting it all the way. That’s the secret. Find something you want to achieve, plan it and focus on achieving it. You will definitely succeed. In fact you will succeed even faster – because you love your goals.
Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible. – Tony Robbins
