Almost everyone is struggling with self-discipline in this life. We find it in everything we do, in our jobs, in our homes or in our schools. It means can I do this thing on time? For example, you might want to write an article for your blog by 6:00pm, can you do it by then? If you look closely, all these little things in life exist for that very reason, to teach us self-discipline.

There is really a special power in self discipline because if we are self-disciplined we can almost achieve anything. How do we achieve this self-discipline? We can achieve self-discipline easily if we understand our purpose in life, clear about our goals, we are devoted and committed to achieve it through focused attention.

How Life Teaches Us

How Life Teaches Us

Life is a miracle. It is fascinating. It fascinates me not just because of its beauty but because of the divine opportunity it presents every moment. It fascinates me for all the ways life uses to teach and lead us to see and understand the truth of life itself.

Sometimes mysterious, sometimes humorous but many times life teaches us by putting us directly into experiencing something to show us one or more principles of life. It puts us into such experience for us to expand or broaden our wisdom about life.

Even in the minutest things we can see life speaking to us, forever teaching something. Last night, just after my shower, while wiping my body in my room, the water heater in the bathroom exploded suddenly. The explosion was so strong I could see the flash of the explosion in the room.

Why did the water heater exploded suddenly after serving me for the last five years? Just when I was thinking about why it could have exploded, the answer came – because it expired. Do you believe that anything can get expired in this world?

Thoughts On Life

Thoughts On Life

I often wonder how many people in this world realize that being alive and to have a life is the greatest gift we can ever have in this world. This statement is true no matter what is your condition. Even if you are living as a wreck, a disabled or whatever worst human condition you can think about. The reality is there is no such thing as good condition or bad condition. All these so called conditions are only differentiation of life experiences.

Making Life Easier For Others

Making Life Easier For Others

Sometime back, I decided to go out and observe people and see what I can learn from them. I wanted to prove to myself that if we observe people with the right frame of mind, we can learn a lot of things about life.

I took a walk to a KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) not far from my house to start my experiment. Silly as it may sound, but if you are working as a researcher, you will do all sort of funny things just to get true information out of people.

Accept Your Mistakes And Change Yourself

Accept Your Mistakes And Change Yourself

It’s so easy to say that we have created all the difficulties in our life by our own choices, but that’s the truth, whatever we are experiencing in life, both the good and the bad, is the result of our past choices and decisions. For most, the realization that they are the cause of their own problems will not come until they hit bottom, until they have been hit so hard in life and they start to think, “Oh boy, I sure have taken some wrong choices… I am not going to do something wrong again”.

Is it possible to take your life, when you have got it all bent and out of shape and make it somewhat decent? How do you reverse some of the bad choices you’ve made in the past? How do you change the mistakes you have done in the past? My own experience says we can’t pretty much do anything about it except to accept the reality of the truth that we have made some mistakes and be willing to face the outcome or consequences of the mistakes at no cost and make sure we don’t make similar mistakes again.

When No One Trust Our Truthfulness

When No One Trust Our Truthfulness

Have you ever experienced in your life where you are very truthful in everything you do and no matter what you do, those people whom you are truthful with just don’t trust you? I have. In fact, I have experienced such people many times.

Only they know why they don’t trust us but from my experience, I tend to think it’s either because they don’t trust themselves enough to trust us or they just don’t understand us. Maybe they don’t trust us or anyone easily because of a bad past experience in their life.

Life can be hard living with or among people who don’t trust us. This is even more true if the person who don’t trust us is the one we love dearly. It’s true but what can we do? We don’t blame anyone. We can’t force anyone to trust us. We just let them be.

Think of it this way… will you trust anyone easily? I am sure you wont. It takes time to build trust. Furthermore, the world around us is build up in such a way, we can no longer bring ourself to trust anyone. So it is true, we can’t really blame anyone.

Well, I am reminded of a saying from a great spiritual master now. I goes like this, “Trust no one but pretend that you trust them”. I think the master must have said this because people in this world are so full of themselves and we don’t know when they will turn their back on us.

Yet, there is one prevailing truth and that truth is, we know ourself better than others. As long as we are honest, we don’t have to prove anything to anyone. It’s really between us and God. God is our witness. We just carry on do our duties properly and leave the rest in God’s hand.

I believe, if as we continue to do our works and duties sincerely with love to everyone around us, including those who don’t trust us, eventually they will realize the truthfulness in us. It takes time, but I believe they will trust.

In fact, truth doesn’t need anyone to defend it. Truth has its own power. Truth can defend itself. Truth is God. If you have truthfulness in your heart, it means you have God in your heart. When you have God in your heart, do you need to prove anything to anyone or do you have to fear anyone? I don’t think so.

I have come to accept that it doesn’t matter what other people think of us. It is their right to have opinion as much as we have the right to have opinion about anyone or anything. What’s important is we don’t encroach into other people’s space and we don’t let others to encroach into our space.

We Are Responsible For Our Life Experiences

We Are Responsible For Our Life Experiences

I had a conversation on the phone with an old friend a while ago. While talking he touched on the topic of palm leaf readings by the Indian Rishis (sage), a script written on a kind of palm leaf and used to read and tell the past life of any one who wants to get the reading.

In the conversation he were telling me about how important it is for one to find out about their own past life and do whatever they can to solve the past life karma to make this life better and according to him, if we can do that palm leaf reading, we can solve it. He is very convinced we can change our destiny through it.

You Can Make A Difference

You Can Make A Difference

We are a miracle of God. We have within us the creativity to make a difference in the community we are living. Whatever other’s are doing for commercial purpose is their business, but you and me, can bring change positively to the life around us. It’s not about what others are doing but it’s about what we are doing to influence positively the life around us.

Do you know a drop of water if gathered enough can become an ocean? Likewise, if every one of us in this world decide and take the responsibility to bring change in the community we are living, this world will definitely be a better place to live in. There will be so much of goodness done to those who needs it much.

There is a Buddhist temple which conducts a special activity every now and then. What they do in the activity is, they buy as many live fish as they can and release them back into the river. Does that bring any difference? Maybe you think no, but they do safe a fish from becoming the victim of human desire to eat flesh and for me and that’s a kind act. To the fish of course, but that’s life too. What are they showing to us? That all life matters.

We definitely won’t get a Nobel Prize from the Nobel Foundation for our small but silent service but we do and will get a “noble prize” in many different ways. We get satisfaction from doing something good to the life as a whole. Even if the act is as simple as giving a smile to someone, it is still a noble act. Nobody is born great but you get bestowed with greatness through the deeds you do. That’s is a great ‘Nobel Prize’ if you ask me.

You have to be a great person to make that change like Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela or Martin Luther King. They were not born great. They were just like you and me but they took responsibility to bring about change in the community they were living. If you realize the value of helping, you will make that move and help out to make your community a better place.

Why helping is important? Think about it, you see people begging in the street and you walk by ignoring them. What if someday, suddenly what you have is taken away? Do you think they will be in such condition if they are capable? Sometimes, we see this blind people coming to us and asking for donation, do you think if they have capacity to see like you do, they will even ask? Helping is about being thankful for what we have.

I have seen some people ignoring these people saying, “oh.. its their karma, why must I care” or “it’s just their bad luck”, but what they don’t realize is that they were given a chance to something good. If not for such people, do you think you can even get that chance to do good deeds? That doesn’t mean we let them be in such a way because that’s the purpose they are there. What I mean is we are living in a dynamic world where we all need each other to grow, both materially and spiritually.

You, yes you who is reading this now, do you think you can bring change and make a difference in your life and the community you are living in? Do you believe that all it takes is for you to begin first not expecting others to start? If I thought the same way that someone else have to do it, this blog would not exist. Yet, you know what, Henry Ford once said, “If you think you can or you think you cannot, either way, you are right”, because that’s what you believe in. You can always change your belief and believe otherwise.

Make that change and bring the difference in someone’s life today. Even if is a small act of kindness such as smiling or being friendly, it does matters. You do have an impact on other people’s life. It’s never too late to start doing anything.
