There are many definitions of happiness. Sometimes said to be the state of well-being characterized by emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy. Whatever the definition is, we all want to be happy. It is one of the greatest thirst of human beings. Usually, something is making us happy. When this something is taken away from us, we are unhappy or sad. Ask yourself, what makes you happy? What if that thing is suddenly taken away from you? How will you feel? Can you still be happy? Let’s use an analogy to understand further that point. Let’s say you love someone so much. Suddenly this person passes away. Suddenly all the love that you have been receiving has gone away. Would you still be happy? If you answered no, it means you are dependent to that person or thing to be happy. It proves that happiness through dependency cannot be lasting and yet, when we are independent, it is so hard to be happy too because we find ourself to be lonely. If happiness cannot be found through depending to someone or something as well as when we are independent of dependency, why at all should we seek happiness? We [...]

When we are asked about what we are trying to achieve, what do we answer most of the time? Most people I know will relate the answer to either a material goal like financial freedom or a spiritual goal like self realization. However I want you to ask yourself, have you ever considered about having a life full of joy at all time no matter what happens as one of those goals you have in life? Let’s say you are now in extreme financial difficulties to the level you have to skip your meals for some days. Can you still find joy while living in such condition? Can you avoid grieving in such condition? Here is another scenario. Let’s say suddenly something bad happened and someone close and dearest to you left this world. Can you still find joy in living while experiencing such conditions? Can you avoid grieving in such conditions? Most people will wonder how to be happy or fill one’s self with joy in such conditions. Some people will even come and tell you that it’s okay to grief, but how many people will come and tell you that it is not okay to grief or cry? [...]

Are you truly having happiness in your life? If you are given a chance to change something, is there anything you would want to change? If that question is asked to me, I’d say, I am not very happy but spiritual understanding makes me to have gratitude for all the blessings I have received so far in my life and if there is something to change, that is changing my own thinking style and improve myself into much more a spiritual and loving individual. What about you? Maybe you are happy or maybe you are not happy. Maybe there is something you want to change and improve. Whatever it is, there is something about happiness that most of us overlook. My observation have shown me that happiness is not permanent. It is as if something determined by our thought process at any given time. If you are keen on observing life around you, probably you will agree with me. Just observe someone for awhile and you can see how his or her thoughts is controlling her state of consciousness. You can observe someone to be very happy, thinking about all the wonderful things and thoughts and than suddenly change to [...]

Someone asked me again today for a life advice on why we people are unhappy with their life. I have written here and here about it. Anyway, it is true there are so many among us who are unhappy in life. If asked, why they are unhappy? Often, the answer given would be because we lack of something and if we could just have that one thing in life, we would be happy. It is true, whatever we are seeking to have can give us happiness, yet it is only temporary. Yes, it is all temporal. What if suddenly the thing is taken away from us? Can we still be happy since we are depending on that particular thing for happiness? Quite frankly, nothing down here can give us permanent happiness because we would not know when we will loose them. In oder to have a lasting happiness, we need to find something that would not leave us no matter what happens and the only thing I know of which can do just that, is God’s love. Yes, it is the only substance that is always with us, no matter what happens around us. When we know how to recognize [...]
